A giant ship engine failed. The ship’s owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure but how to fix the engine.

Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was a young. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom.

Two of the ship’s owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed!

A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars.

“What?!” the owners exclaimed. “He hardly did anything!”

So they wrote the old man a note saying, “Please send us an itemized bill.”

The man sent a bill that read:

Tapping with a hammer…… ……… …….. $ 2.00
Knowing where to tap………. ……… …… $ 9,998.00
Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort makes all the difference

A Small Story…

A boy and a girl were playing together. The boy had a collection of marbles. The girl had some sweets with her. The boy told the girl that he would give her all his marbles in exchange for her sweets. The girl agreed.

The boy kept the biggest and the most beautiful marble aside and gave the rest to the girl. The girl gave him all her sweets as she had promised.

That night, the girl slept peacefully. But the boy couldn’t sleep as he kept wondering if the girl had hidden some sweets from him the way he had hidden his best marble.

Moral of the story: If you don’t give your hundred percent in a relationship, you’ll always keep doubting if the other person has given his/her hundred percent… This is applicable for any relationship like love, friends, employer-employee relationship etc.

Give your hundred percent to everything you do and sleep peacefully.

I took this story from an email sent to me by one of my friends. It is very touching and therefore, thought of sharing with you all. And you know, this the one of the best ways to share it with you!
Here is the story.
While a man was polishing his new car, his four year old son picked stone and scratched lines on the side of the car.
In anger, the man took the child’s hand and hit it many times, not realizing he was using a wrench (spanner).
At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures. When the child saw his father, with painful eyes, he asked.
“Dad when will my fingers grow back?”
Man was so hurt and speechless. He went back to the car and kicked it a lot of times.
Devastated by his own actions, sitting in front of that car, he looked at the scratches; child had written
“LOVE YOU DAD”.
The next day that man committed suicide. .
Anger and Love has no limits, so let the river of life flow in Limits so that this fresh water stream is never scattered.
As the Chineese proverb goes,
“If you are patient in one moment of anger, you
will escape a hundred days of sorrow.”
How true! We get angry for small issues and that may finally result in the break-up of close relations and even to such extent that we will have to live or die with lament and pain. Then pain is even more if it has resulted in such a situation as mentioned above, where nothing can compensate the loss. And later, when we think of the cause of our anger, we will often realize that it was for a silly matter. We have a quote in Hindi, “ goli hadh se nikal gaya to nikal gaya” meaning you cannot stop a bullet once it is fired from the gun. A small drop of venom can cost a life; a moment of anger too can cost many lives.

While visiting India, George Bush was invited to tea with Dr. Abdul Kalam.

He asks Kalam what his leadership philosophy is. He says that, it is to surround himself with

intelligent people.

Bush asks how he knows if they’re intelligent. “I do so by asking them the right questions,” says Kalam.

”Allow me to demonstrate.”

Bush watches as Kalam phones Manmohan Singh and says, “Mr. Prime Minister, please answer this question:

“ Your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or sister. Who is it?”

Manmohan immediately responds,

”It’s me, Sir!”

“Correct… Thank you and good-bye” says Kalam. He hangs up and says,” Did you get that, Mr. Bush?”

Bush nods: “Yes Mr. President… Thanks a lot. I’ll definitely be using that!”

Bush, on returning to Washington, decides he’d better put Condoleezza Rice to the test.

Bush summons her to the White House and says,

”Condoleezza, I wonder if you can answer a question for me.”

“Why, of course, sir. What’s on your mind?”

Bush poses the question: “Uh, your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or your sister. Who is it?” Rice was puzzled and finally asks, “Can I think about it and get back to you?” Bush agrees, and Rice leaves.

Rice immediately calls a meeting of senior senators, and they puzzle over the question for several hours, but nobody came up with an answer…

Finally, in desperation, Rice calls Colin Powell and explains the problem.

“Mr. Powell, your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or your sister. Who is it?”

Powell answers immediately, “It’s me, of course.”

Much relieved Rice rushes back to the White House, finds George Bush, and exclaims,

“I know the answer, sir! I know who it is! It’s our Colin Powell!”

And Bush replies in disgust, “Wrong, it’s Manmohan Singh!”
